Since 2017, we’ve been visiting schools around the world to speak to students about Shero Comics. This year, we’ve returned to the classroom for author visits, comic book workshops, and to speak to young people about Shero Games. Recently, we received an invitation from Culver City High School to speak to seventy-five students. Culver City High School has been a supporter of Shero in the past since their students volunteered for our first two years of SheroCon.
On this visit, our CEO, Shequeta L. Smith, spoke to students from the architecture and game design classes, as well as several more students who were simply interested in all things Shero. During this visit, we discovered that Culver City High School is the only school in LAUSD that has a brand new two-year game development program. This was awesome since we’re currently in the process of building two games. While there, we were able to do some on-the-spot beta testing for the prototype of our upcoming mobile and PC game, “Rayven Choi: Reaper’s Run.”
After getting feedback on the game, the Culver City High School gaming teacher, Mr. Darien, invited us to check out their new gaming lab, which includes an old-school arcade. Before leaving, we had an opportunity to see the games the students were building and find out which games they loved playing the most.
We definitely need MORE of this in all schools across America. Those game design students were geeked about gaming and were filled with pride about the work they were doing.
